Top Mount 'cooler for 4JB1T?

Postby Leedo » Mon Nov 10, 2008 3:15 pm

Does anybody know where i can get a top mount intercooler to suit my 96 'Deo.
also is there an aftermarket core that would do the job or maybe a 'cooler off a pajero or something.

anyone that has done this and can give me any info would be great.

Have not done one myself, but you should find some info to point you in the right direction here:

Or as an alternative you could look at one of these - dosnt need you to poke holes in your bonnet:

thanks mate,
both look like they would do the job nicely. i'm happy with the deo's power but i figured some cooler air wouldnt hurt. i think this one will go into the long term mods list as rego is coming up and i need tyres real bad.

do you know of any intercooler off another car that would fit, had a quick measure and it seems like something with maybe a 300mm wide core(maybe 450mm wide all up with endtanks) would fit in the space. i thought maybe the cooler off a later model 3.0 Deo would work but ive never actually seen under the hood of one.

i had a front mount on mine with a 10" fan on it that i turned on in low range to keep air moving through it. It wasn't too hard to plumb up, and worked well. If you search through this forum, there may be some info here..... i have pictures on my computer somewhere.

i think from memory mine was off a RX-7 turbo...... i have one here that you might be able to hook up top mount. You are welcome to have it if it suits your needs.

Green with envy.
i called handfull of local (newcastle) wreckers and importers.. no one could(or didnt wanna) help. Hytech at cardiff said he does get 4JB1T's in but has not seen a factory top mount cooler, he also went to say i should just go an eBay frontmount job..which is neat if you have a VL Turbo but a bit out there for my Turbo Diesel slug pumping piss all boost..i think.
