Was it a gold 45FVL on a hummer chassis that had been widened and bobbed rear end? It was shown at SEMA last yr I think...

That was the plan with my SWB body was to lengthen it by around 10 to 12 inches to suit the 80 wheel base and then widen it around 8 inches in width as well.

But I have decided a ute will be more practical for me at the moment, I really dont need another rego and insurance for just a toy that will only get driven a few times a yr. Plus my little Hilux is a bit low and a show pony for work around the farm. The ute will be a great all rounder for me. Drive it thru the paddock and wont get damaged, still take it 4bying and camping and have a few more legs on the hwy.!

I might still do the mod of the SWB body at a later stage and wack it on another chassis, just have to see what happens..

I ordered a TIG torch for my DC inverter a few days back and have been having a play with it. Had me beat for a bit but soon found out that for less heat to be in the tungsten tip it needs to be run reverse polarity from normal. Then the second mistake was I was using normal oxy filler wire.

I got some proper filler rod today and some 6mm plate for a practice. Did about 3-4 runs just on the plate to get the settings right (100amps) and then did the below. First shot is my first fillet attempt, not real flash in the middle. Contaminated the tip and ended up with a wandering arc. Second shot is my second and final attempt.

I'm going to build the gearbox crossmember tomorrow with the tig so we will see how that goes.

Started on the gearbox crossmember yesterday. As I have a 60's 5 speed I had to modify the 80 crossmember to adapt. Only drama I have now is where the crossmember bolts to the chassis it is back way too far for the motor to be sitting in the right spot. I'll have to have a look at what I'll do to move it or I might have to use the old rear mount crossmember that I had in the 40 and make two new brackets to weld on the inside of the chassis rails.... a few pics of what I got up to yesterday.....

60 crossmember sitting behind the 80...

Start cutting...

Tacked into place

As you can see, it sits way too far back...

Thanks Boof!

Hey what g/box are you running in your Gen6 Lux? I'm curious as to where the crossmember mounts to it and where the bell housing sits in relation to your chassis?

I am running the Lexus auto and Lux t-case, I made a mount up using a laser cut plate from www.budscustoms.com.au.

Having looked at your pics though your driveline is a LOT shorter than mine. Maybe a mount similiar to mine would give fix the problem for you.

I could check the home PC if I took any photos of the driveline in without the cab on, if you like but I think I was keen to fit the cab on and didnt take many

Would it work if you used the mount under the t-case rather than the gear box?

Hey Boof, thanks for the pic..

I have a lazer cut crossmember that I had mounted to it in the 40 chassis so I think I will utilize it. I have not looked under the transfer case to see if it has mounting holes under it. Pic below shows the crossmember on the box before I put it in the swb.

If you manage to stumble upon a pic of your driveline before you stuck the cab on I'd love to see it. Cheers.

Kustom.

Looking good mate. Is the XP a coupe, ute or sedan? Have had a couple of those myself. One was a fairmont sedan with 272 Y block in it. other than that was stock as a rock right down to the rims and hubcaps. caught just a few people of guard in that old girl

Built a load leveler for my engine crane today. Can buy them from anywhere from 40 to 50 bucks but do you think I could get one with out the wait! Plus I know mine wont break in a hurry!

This is what I started with...

And finished with this...

Motor sitting in a better position now... Still got to make mounts but this allows me to do some measuring up...
