Jimive seen a few over here too, im hoping there will be a couple at the blackrat challenge next week so i can have a look and pick the owners brains for info, not sure if i want to do a full dual cab chop, thinking about choppin it right behind the wheel archs and choppin the chassis down to suit, then raise the fuel tank to achieve an awesome departure angle, and still have some space behind the rear seat, something similar to what roothy did to his 40 series, what i really need is tech info on retaining rigiidity and body strength

When he has done his mines going to get the chop also and a normal front half turret as well.
So I will be watching this thread carfully.

i helped do a 60 series and we used the back window panel out of a hilux and moulded it in. the whole chop took 2 weeks of after work hours, painted

Im looking at doing this to my HJ60.
Will cost around $1500 to get to the primer stage, gets rid of
typical bloody yota rust at the same time.

Gday Madmac
I didnt do mine myself as you know but i can give you a few tips and can provide you with some detailed photos if you like.
The glass in the back i think people commonly use the landcruiser ute rear glass. My engineer had no problem with the conversion at all but gave me a hard time about the glass used in the back. If you are doing the conversion make sure the glass has the tempered sticker on it as they will not pass it otherwise as it cant be proven to be the safety glass.
I would recommend cutting halfway through the wheel arch not behind it as it looks terrible with the cab part being too long. (my opinion only). I think cutting where mine has been done gives the truck a sporty look. 8)
I will more than likely be heading up to the Menai cleanup at the end of this month if you live near Appin or Menai i could meet up with you if you want to look at the truck or come for a wheel.

I've seen the rear of a hilux cab used for a GQ it turned out good, from memory I think they went to a wrecker and cut about 60mm off the back of a lux cab, it's a bit short and you have to add about 300mm to the bottom of it but thats hidden by the tray, the key to making them look good is rounded corners, I think the ones that are just chopped off square look a bit ordinary.
